Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Of course its corrupt.

The only way there could be any way of eliminating it would be for the top leagues swapping refs each weekend. Each weekend would be random. PL refs officiate in Italy, German in the PL, Spanish in the German etc. Randomised again for the next round.
Who is reffing where shouldn't be announced.

A lot of air km's etc but at least it would make it more difficult for corruption.

Not going to happen so the corruption will continue.

I’d say 75% corrupt
25% scared officials.

So Brighton who are daring to go above their station are being screwed by Var, like us with refs in the past hhhmmmmmm. That Tottenham match they were royally screwed.

Everton result not permitting.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
You may not be surprised to hear that Liverpool sit top of the current VAR table, so purely on field decisions where VAR made a decision for or against a team. They are +6.

We’re mid table at 0, so balanced equally, while Brighton are bottom, think they were -5.

So that’s not the measure of right or wrong, purely the final decision during the game.

I'm not sure if all the super league six (Big 5 + sp*rs) are benefitting from "questionable" decisions, but have no doubt in my mind that against West Ham every year Liverpool and Man Utd benefit consistently and have cost us points for decades. Three possible explanations are 1. Corruption 2. Incompetence 3 Intimidation. I would rule out incompetence. So it's either they are bent or are afraid of the PL, FA , advertisers and all the TV and radio football channels which report on matches from a Liverpool or Man Utd perspective and want to see these teams dominating. What fucking chance do we have.

I hope they piss off to their super league now and take their whipping boys Spurs.

ag ag ag, every super league needs a gimp.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
It’s corruption in my eyes. Too obvious some of these decisions and the same teams get them. As mentioned earlier about how little West Ham were kept from Champions League.
I hope they piss off to their super league now and take their whipping boys Spurs.

The chap who was in charge of the premiership some years back who said it was good for the premiership if Man U get into the champions league.

The fact that betting sponsors are on practically every hoarding and kit tells you all you need to know. Can't bite the hand that feeds you.

Truth is. Most of them ain't got the stones to go against the top 6.

2015/16 was an utter disgrace in terms of officiating against us and I remain bitter!

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Don't forget the Lanzini offside at home to Arsenal that wasn't (when it was still 0-0), the 11 yard wall against Chelsea and the awful scissor tackle on Payet (Everton) that went unpunished.

Not that I'm bitter or anything...

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
The 2015-16 season we should have gotten top 4.

We had two red cards later rescinded (both games ended in a draw) and we had two penalties given against us for fouls outside the area (think Leicester and Chelsea - both draws). We missed out by 4 points

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Warnock right on the money there. That could have been 2 or 3 points gone for us depending on how things went that game. Easily could have relegated us that one decision.

And they just brush it off! How is it that 2 professional refs can view that and say it’s ok and everyone in the world disagree with them? They should be reprimanded for that. They are not doing their jobs.

Furthermore, they should be reprimanded so that they understand there are consequences for getting such obvious shit wrong. And what ever bias/bungs or whatever that keep cropping up get eradicated. Millions of pounds resting on these decisions. It’s a farce.

Fair play to Stephen Warnock, no words on how a Referee and two VAR refs excused this blatant handball

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Referees on the pitch are expressly forbidden to use 'common sense', and quite rightly so. The minute a ref uses 'common sense' he is being subjective and is ignoring the actual rules of the game. I can't think of any other way that is more likely to preserve 'big club' bias.

Spectators, players and managers can cope with decisions which are correct by the letter of the law, even if they seem unfair (though they might moan a bit). What people can't tolerate is inconsistency, which the use of 'common sense' makes inevitable.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
What amuses me is how Dermot Gallagher now in his new role seems to side against certain decisions, decisions that he would probably have given himself when he was Refereeing. Certainly suggestive that a Referee giving his opinion on TV has developed, or is allowed common sense, whereas those on the pitch seem to have lost the ability of common sense.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
If you don't believe it's fixed then perhaps this quote from Mark Halsey from 2016 will make you think differently:

"I have been in that situation, when I have seen an incident and been told to say I haven't seen it. To be fair to the FA... it's not them. It comes from within PGMOL. It doesn't stop there. We've been told to give a certain amount of corners, or throw ins, fouls, bookings etc. The Premier League is rife with spot fixing and bias towards certain clubs from the FA. Every referee could be in front of a court one day soon".

Also, consider these 'incidents' that may or not have been proven/debated before:
1. Xhaka and his deliberate yellow cards
2. The lights going out at WHU v Palace - due to Malaysian betting
3. Admission that refs were told not to book certain high profile players (from the time Rooney was still playing)
4. Following on from 3. and is this still a thing: Harry Kane should've received at least two definite reds for horrendous challenges
5. "Fergie" time
6. Clattenburg having the Kouyate red card rescinded, going absolutely potty about not being backed and gobbing off about other little bits of corrupt officiating of his
7. The 'offside' goal at Anfield (Wolves in the FA Cup) - they claimed they didn't have a clear camera angle to measure it properly
8. Years back but still, Alan Ball recalling the day Don Revie turned up at his home with an envelope full of cash
9. The Notts Forest European semi final where it came out that the referee had been bought (think they lost 3-0)
10. Argentina's 1978 World Cup win!
11. Juventus and Serie A

Add your own as I'm remembering way too many now!!

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Yup- TMO tells the ref what he may have missed. They'll check for offsides and forward passes as well, I believe.

They seem to use the phrase 'is there any reason i can't award the try?' as standard. However i don't really know if the TMO gets involved if the ref hasn't asked, as i don't watch that much rugby.

Key thing with TMO is they don't seem to fuck things up or make poor subjective decisions, whereas VAR officials constantly do it.

The process in football is far too 'secretive'. I find it odd that commentators can hear it, but it's never broadcast. Maybe to do with not talking while play is going on, but there's no excuse to not broadcast it while play is stopped. No-one loves Steve fucking McManaman's voice enough to be upset if he shuts up for a few minutes while the officials are talking. In the cricket, rugby and NFL to name a few, the decision making of the officials is explained by the officials in real time or at the moment they come to their decision. It never is in football, which it should be.
